# Payment issues

> What happens when a plan payment fails or needs approval, and what to do when Meta stops delivering messages.

There are two places a payment can go wrong, and they have different fixes:

* **Your LazyApp plan** is paid by card through Stripe. Fix it in **Settings → Billing**.
* **Your messages** are billed by Meta. Fix it in Meta Business Settings, on your WhatsApp Business Account.

## A plan renewal fails

When Stripe cannot charge your card at renewal, your plan becomes past due. **It keeps working while Stripe retries the payment over the next few days**, so a declined card does not stop your messages straight away.

* **Billing** shows a banner with **Pay now** and **Update card**.
* The workspace owner gets an email, and so does your billing email when it differs.

Pay the open invoice or update the card before the retries run out.

## Your bank needs you to approve a payment

Some Indian cards need you to approve a recurring charge (an RBI e-mandate) or confirm it with 3-D Secure. Stripe cannot finish the payment until you do.

* **Billing** shows a **Confirm your payment** banner.
* You get one email with a link to approve the payment.

Approve it from the banner or the email. Your plan keeps working while the payment waits.

## Retries run out

If every retry fails, the plan is paused. The workspace then has no plan:

* Sending from your own number and plan features such as automations and Flows stop working in Live.
* **Nothing is deleted.** Contacts, conversations, templates and settings stay.
* **Billing** shows **Choose a plan**, or lets you pay the open invoice to turn the plan back on.
* Test mode keeps working.

Through the API, a request that needs the plan returns `402` with `plan_limit_reached`. See [Plan limit reached](https://docs.lazyapp.in/billing/pricing-and-tiers.md#plan-limit-reached).

## An upgrade is declined

A declined card on an upgrade changes nothing. You stay on your current plan and are not charged. Update the card and try again.

## Meta stops delivering messages

Meta bills your messages to the payment method on your WhatsApp Business Account, not to LazyApp. If that payment method is missing or failing, Meta stops delivering charged messages, even while your LazyApp plan is active.

Since 1 October 2026 this includes replies: after a number's 1,000 free service messages in a month, replies are charged, and they stop being delivered if the account has no payment method. LazyApp warns you at 90% and 100%. See [Service messages from 1 October 2026](https://docs.lazyapp.in/billing/meta-message-billing.md#service-messages-from-1-october-2026).

To fix it, add or update the payment method in Meta Business Settings, under your WhatsApp Business Account.

## Platform teams that let LazyApp pay Meta

When LazyApp pays Meta for a number, through partner-managed funding on a platform team, Meta's charges are debited from a wallet at Meta's rate: the platform team's, or the platform customer's own when that customer is prepaid. Those sends can return `402` when the wallet runs out:

| `code` | Cause | What to do |
| - | - | - |
| `insufficient_credits` | The wallet is at or below zero, for templates and other non-service sends | Add money to the wallet |
| `service_credits_exhausted` | The wallet is empty and a charged service message has already settled | Add money to the wallet before the next reply |

Ordinary workspaces, and platform customers whose business pays Meta itself (the default), never get these codes. See [Wallets](https://docs.lazyapp.in/billing/wallets.md) and [Platform funding](https://docs.lazyapp.in/platform/funding.md).
